Leonardo Silva (レオナルド・シルバ) is Brazil's star teenage player. Since his appearance at the U-13 World Cup, he saw Suguru Aizawa as an equal and a rival.

Background[]

Born in Brazil, Leonardo had already shown at a young age a great passion for soccer. He and his younger brother, Marco Antonio used to entertain people in the streets by showing up their skills. After their parents died in an accident, Leonardo and Marco were raised by other relatives.[1] As the years went by, Leonardo grew to become a very talented player to the point that he was the highest scorer and the most valuable player of the U-13 World Cup. Nevertheless, he also noticed that Suguru also had the potential to become the best player in the world.

After a brief stint in which they played together as teammates in a practice match, Leonardo became motivated to face Suguru one day as an opponent and expected the latter to sign for a professional club. However, Suguru went back to Japan in order to help the game growing in Japan at grassroots level and to find that "Knight" of a striker. After Suguru passed away, Leonardo came to pay his respects to his late friend and rival. However, his meeting with Kakeru revived the fire of his old rivalry as Leonardo felt that a part of Suguru is still alive inside Kakeru. Leonardo rejected several offers from big clubs and also didn't want to be associated with money from his late father's company to justify the decision of playing high school soccer in Japan.

Appearance[]

Fairly tall and muscular for his age, Leonardo has a dark skin and sports long black hair. Sometimes, he also wears eyeglasses. Despite his status as a high school student, he wears brand clothes that express his superstar status at Tokyo Shuukyuu Academy High School. On some occasions, he wears a motorcyclist's helmet and biker clothes when driving his motorcycle.

Personality[]

Leonardo has a calm personality. He likes to tease others and makes a good share of jokes when off the field. But when he is on the field, he is very serious and very professional as the leader of his team. When attending other teams' matches, Leonardo has an eye for analyzing other teams' strength and weaknesses.

Relationships[]

Suguru Aizawa[]

Leonardo respected Suguru and considered him his rival and friend. Although Brazil defeated Japan in the final of the U-13 World Cup in Spain, Leonardo was left unsatisfied because he was deprived of a confrontation against Suguru, who was suspended because of a wrongful yellow card in the semi-final. Shortly after the U-13 World Cup, Leonardo accepted to play a practice match with a local Spanish club only when Suguru accepted as well. During that match, instant chemistry operated on the pitch between the 2 geniuses to overturn a result against a team with older players.[2] Nevertheless, Leonardo hoped that Suguru would face him as an opponent one day. The long-awaited confrontation never took place because of Suguru's untimely death, but Leonardo came to Japan nevertheless with hopes of facing the remaining part of Suguru still alive inside Kakeru.

Mai Murasaki[]

When Mai was 9, she ran away from her father in Brazil. Since Leonardo speaks fluent Japanese while Mai couldn't speak Portuguese, he took care of her over the years. From their relationship, she learned the same Ginga style of soccer as Leonardo's. Around the time when Leonardo moved to Tokyo Shuukyuu Academy High School, Mai followed him and enrolled herself in the same school. When playing together against Kakeru and Nana in the park, Leonardo and Mai showed excellent chemistry of their own. Nevertheless, Leonardo does not share Mai's views towards her father. Because Leonardo lost his parents at a young age, he strongly believes that family must stick together through thick and thin, much to Mai's disappointment.[3]
